Australia has been on fire since September of 2019 until now. These fires have destroyed ten million hectares and killed one billion animals. Many animals are injured and lost their homes. These fires have killed 50% of the koala population and have pushed this species closer to extinction.

Australia has been experiencing a drought when the fires started. Strong winds have made the fires spread rapidly, firefighters from the US, Canada, and New Zealand have come for additional support.

More than 2,000 firefighters have been working on the ground alone until additional support came. Donations can be made to several organizations working toward victim relief and recovery, including the Australian Red Cross, Salvation Army Australia, the NSW Rural Fire Service, and the St. Vincent de Paul Society Australia.

You can also help the devastated animal population by giving to wildlife rescue and treatment groups like WIRES, the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital, and Currumbin Wildlife Hospital

Many celebrities have also donated to help Australia. Chris Hemsworth donated one million dollars, Elton John donated one million dollars, Leonardo DiCaprio donated 3.4 million dollars, and Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban donated 500,000 dollars. If you cannot donate money, there are other ways to help. You can donate clothing and household goods.

Wildfires continued to burn through parts of eastern Australia, severe storms on Monday brought hail and flooding to major cities in the region.Streets were also covered in hailstones as drivers attempted to navigate through areas that were impacted by flash-flooding.

While storms have brought some relief to the area that’s been impacted by ferocious wildfires over the past few months, officials warned the danger is still not over. As of Monday, there are still over 80 blazes burning in the New South Wales and Victoria states in the southeastern part of the country.

Living in California we can relate and understand what they are going through. We know how hard fire season can be and how much can be destroyed. Especially with the city of Paradise, which is currently being rebuilt after complelty burning down in 2018.
