Chuck Selna is a Tracy High School Physical Education (PE) teacher. He enjoys his job and he looks forward to it everyday. He is a Tracy High alumnus and his favorite hobbies are to fish, golf and camp. His favorite places to go camping are at Jenkinson Lake and Tuolumne Meadows. Selna said that if he wasn’t a PE teacher then he would be in some sort of job in law enforcement.

What schools did you attend? “Tracy High School class of 1987, then I went to Delta Community College, and transferred to Fresno State (CSU).”

What will your students learn this year? “They will learn how to get healthier and feel more confident.”

How do you help your students strive for to be the best? “I tell students to change and challenge themselves to be better, they signed up for my class, and so I will encourage/motivate them to do better and strive to be healthier.”

What are your favorite sports? “I like football, my favorite team is the Denver Broncos, I have been a fan for quite a few years.  Ever since the Orange Crush Defense.  Rob Swenson played at Tracy High and also played for the Broncos and that is why I starting following them.”

What hobbies do you have? “I love fishing, golfing and camping.”

What do you do during your down time? “I like to golf, I golf anywhere that has a good deal, a good course, and where my friends want to golf.  I don’t play at any place on a consistent basis.  My favorite course is Wente in Livermore .”

What thoughts do you take home from school? “I think about the positive and negative comments from students, how to make each day better than the last.”

Why did you become a PE teacher? “I was inspired by Coach Wayne Schneider, the way he was with the students, I wanted to be the same.”

What is the best part of your job? “The best part of my job is teaching students healthy skills that will help them in the future.”

What is the worst part of your job? “I don’t really think there is a ‘worst’ part about my job, I look forward to it everyday, and I really enjoy interacting with the students.”
