Although three cross country runners qualified for the section meet at Folsom High School on Nov. 16, none of them were able to qualify for the state meet. Ellie Fisher qualified on the varsity team while Jacob Spencer and Morgan (Moe) Harrison qualified on the sophomore and freshman teams. Since none of the three runners moved on, the season for cross country has come to an end.

“They all did well, all three of them obtained a course personal record,” Hermann said. “In addition, Jacob and Moe received medals.”

Hermann felt this season went well. There were a number of people who performed well throughout the season.

“I think almost everybody improved on the team this year,” Hermann said. “It was overall a good season, we had some good performances and some wins.”

Throughout the season, according to Hermann she said the top boy and girl runner changed, but she believes seniors Alfonso Gonzales and Ellie Fisher lead the team in the end.

“I feel like I focused more this season. It’s my senior year, and I wanted it to end on a good mark,” Fisher said. “I feel like our varsity girls’ team was really strong, so I’m really proud of us for that.”

Both Fisher and Gonzales believe they had improved greatly throughout the years they have been in cross country.

“Since I made sections this year, I feel like I improved,” Fisher said. “I definitely improved from last year because last year was my first year running on varsity and running a three-mile run instead of the two miles I have been running the previous years helped me out and made a huge difference.”

Adding on, Gonzalez said he improved as well.

“I definitely did improve from last year and the previous years,” Gonzales said. “I recently ran a 17:36 on my last 3 mile run which was good because it was under 18 minutes.”

In addition, Gonzalez talks about what a great season this was.

“I loved it, it was cool hanging out with the team and doing all the races. It’s also my last year on this team so I had to push myself to do the best I can,” Gonzales said. “As a captain this year, I am really proud of all my teammates and what we accomplished this season in cross country.”

On Nov. 20, there was a cross country banquet held and junior Kaitlin Spence and Fisher received co-MVP awards. The male co-MVP’s were junior Evan Savage and Gonzalez. Savage was also given the team’s dog bone making him the team captain for next year.
