Melissa Clark and Hunter Lew look fabulous in their sparkly dresses for their senior prom.

Everyone looked beautiful and dashing on Prom night. Girls wore sparkly gowns and the guys suited up in their tuxes.

Prom dresses can range from less than $100 to $500. Many girls bought or rented their dresses at bridal stores around Tracy such as: Bianca’s, Love that Dress, and Brenda’s. I think if it’s a very expensive and specific dress you can’t find anywhere else, renting a dress is perfect. It’s perfect because an expensive dress is not worth buying if it’s just going to be used for one night. However, if it’s just an ordinary dress, you might as well just buy a look alike at Macy’s or another department store.

While every girl looked “prom perfect” that night, there were a few favorite dresses that I remembered. Melissa Clark’s two piece Sherri Hill gown was my absolute favorite dress that night. It was the perfect mixture of detailed rhinestone embellishments and purple chiffon. It was high colored with sheer top and silver jewels.

I particularly loved dresses with intricate open back desgns. Open back dresses are perfect for featuring girls’assets, but doing so tastefully.

Guys at Prom also looked unique and spiffy. I loved seeing how many guys chose to wear bowties instead of the usual long tie. I also saw some other unique twists on prom tuxes such as: suspenders, velvet blazers, colorful socks, and vintage black and white shoes.

Prom on a budget wasn’t difficult for me at all. I went to all the usual Prom dress stores, and I couldn’t seem to find the perfect dress. While I went to Group USA, I tried on dress after dress and couldn’t seem to find the perfect one for me. As a cheap and easy alternative, I managed to get a cheap dress at Charlotte Russe and ask my seamstress aunt to add gold embellishments and make it more formal.

Hair, make up, and nails are also an important part of a girl’s perfect prom look. I think dressing up for prom is a lot about balance. I think there’s such a thing as “over doing it”, even on Prom night. Strapless long gowns are the ideal dress to wear with a bold statement necklace and a long hairstyle. High collared dresses are better for up dos and more minimal accessories. Brightly colored dresses usually call for more subtle make up, while neutral colored dresses allow for more bold and intense make up.

Shoes weren’t such an important feature of the typical Prom outfit unless you weren’t wearing a long gown. A lot of girls, including myself, didn’t buy brand new shoes for Prom night. The shoes don’t even show under a gorgeous dress, so it wasn’t as important.

Overall, everyone looked gorgeous on Prom night, and it was definitely a night to remember.
