Volleyball team ends season in section semi-finals

As the Tracy High girls’ varsity volleyball team finished second in TCAL, and the girls made their way to playoffs to finish what they started. The girls had high expectations after doing so well in league.

The first round of playoffs, Tracy had defeated Franklin, 3-0, on Nov. 10. It was no match for the team to set their eyes on quarter finals.

Coach Mahina McCamey was pleased with the team to move on in the playoffs.

Tracy traveled to Turlock to upset them, 3-1, in the second round on Nov. 12.

This was the first time in my 13 years of coaching at Tracy High School that our team has ever gone this far. I am so proud of all our girls

The offense worked hard on killing the ball every time. At the end of the season, especially against Lincoln, St. Mary’s, and Turlock, the middle hitters became serious offensive threats.           Defensively, there were not many hits that got past the blockers untouched, which made it easier for the diggers to defend the opponent’s hits.

“I’m happy that we are doing really well this season since it is coming to an end, but I am very happy with all my teammates,” senior Lauren Arena said.

“I think our three game sweeps against Lincoln and St. Mary’s in the second round of league will go down as two of the most memorable matches of my coaching career,” McCamey said.

“It was one of the best feelings going to playoffs. It was very emotional being a senior and making history,” senior Kaylah Jenkins said.

In the semi-finals, Tracy battled Pleasant Grove with the intentions of making it to the next round. Unfortunately, it was the end of the road for the girls, as the final score was a loss, 3-0, on Nov. 17.

Pitman took the victory in the section finals against Pleasant Grove, 3-1, on Nov. 21.

Coach McCamey was pleasantly surprised that the girls made it all the way to the playoff semi-finals.

“Going into semi-finals was the perfect way to end my high school career of volleyball,” Jenkins said.
