College is four months away and many seniors at Tracy High are having to make the tough decision of choosing what college they plan to attend. College is not just the next step in school, it is the next step in someone’s life and future career.

There are hundreds of colleges to choose from, so the decision for students can be very difficult. Students are pressured by parents and friends, being torn between the choice of going to a college in order to pursue their future career or stick with life-long friends.

Deadlines have passed already to apply for universities and state schools, but the anticipation of whether being accepted or rejected keeps students aware and ready. So many factors, can change the direction one takes after high school.

College is not only a vital academic experience, but it is also the first time many students have been away from home. The pressure to succeed in the classroom and enjoy college life can be overwhelming.

About 65 percent of students who graduate high school attend college, so 40 percent of the students are limited to certain jobs, because most jobs now require a college degree, even if it is just an associate’s art degree.

There are a few good jobs that pay good wages such as a postal carrier, locomotive engineer, casino supervisor, sports referee, etc. For some people school isn’t an option because they feel it’s not for them and would rather work after graduating, but college opens up a numerous amount job opportunities for you.

The students of Tracy High have some tough choices ahead of them, but they have the skills and capability to provide for themselves in college, and succeed in making a great career.
