Off to a hot start, the Tracy varsity volleyball team ended has 23-5 record, starting league off with a 4-0 record.

Sophomore captain Natalie Laiolo speaks about her expectations for the 2018 season.

“We’re 4-0 in league so far, so I think we have a pretty good chance of making playoffs. I think it all comes down to our mental capability on the court,”  said Laiolo.

New head coach Cat Ebojo brings intensity to practice and during game time.

“Her individual relationship with each girl gives the team a bigger foundation of chemistry,” Laiolo said.

As a team they hope to improve their last season’s record of 33-11 overall.

The team’s third league win came against Tracy’s biggest rival, St. Mary’s. After splitting matches with the Rams last year, the girls were determined to defeat St. Mary’s and give themselves an edge to win league. Tracy took down the tough St. Mary’s girls sweeping them in three straight sets.

“We started out with way more energy than St. Mary’s did, and it carried throughout the whole match,” Laiolo said. “We were challenged with their big hitters, but with our outstanding defense and serve receive, we were able to stay on top.”

Tracy plays a non-league match against Lathrop on Sept. 28, the next day compete in the Stockton Classic Tournamnet and resumes league with a cross-town game at West High on Oct. 1.
