Tracy High’s special education teacher Deborah Latasa loves her job and loves being a teacher at Tracy High. Her students inspire her to be the best teacher she can be, and to always give 100 percent on the job each day.

Where did you go to college? “I went to University of the Pacific for five years and got my bachelor’s degree. Then I went to San Diego State for four years and got my masters.”

What do you like about teaching at Tracy High? “What’s not to love about Tracy High? I love the students and the staff. I love what I do, and I love teaching. I love coming to work every day ready to teach my students something new.”

What are some of your hobbies? “I like traveling. I would be ready to travel anywhere at any time. I like reading even though I don’t get a lot of time to read.”

What is your favorite movie? “‘Hello Dolly’ is my all-time favorite movie. It’s a great musical with really great songs.”

What is your favorite animal? “Penguins are my favorite animal. I started liking them as a kid, because of the old TV show Chilly Willy. I have been in love with penguins ever sense then.”

Would you ever travel? “Yes, I would love to travel. I would travel the world if I could. My bags are packed and I’m ready to go, because it’s something that I would always enjoy and it is something I have always wanted to do.”

Where would you like to travel? “I would mainly travel to Europe, because I love the country. I want to go to Bora Bora, because I like fun in the sun and it would be nice to have a vacation.”

What superpower would you like to have? “I would want to have super vision, because I like seeing the world as it is, so it would be cool to see everything always.”

What do you like about working with kids? “I like being able to have an effect on a young one’s mind. I love teaching in general. I like helping my students improve and become the better students I know they are capable of being.”

Have you always wanted to be a teacher? “I knew I wanted to become a teacher when I was eight years old, it was all that I had ever thought about doing. It has always been my dream to teach and to educate young minds. It’s all that I have ever wanted to do.”
