Cross country season comes to an end

Tracy High’s cross country team ended its season of placing third in league for boys and some boys advanced to the sections.

“Our Frosh/Soph girls were first in the league along with our varsity girls improving their position in league for the season,” Coach Melissa McCullough said.

Both girls team made huge improvements over the season.

“Our varsity boys’ team did fairly well also. We had stand out performances from many induvial. We had more athletes go to induvial meets then we had previously from many years,” McCullough said.

One big accomplishment for the team was sending many individuals to sections including the whole freshmen and sophomore girls’ team advancing sections. This is the first time Tracy high sent a whole team to sections in over 20 years.

The boys’ varsity narrowly missed making sections as a team.

“It was pretty cool making sections, I wish the whole team could have made it, too, but only the top ten teams go and we were 11. Overall, it was a great experience,”

Falco and Perry were two of the boys that made it to sections.

“It felt great making it to sections and being able to run with some of my teammates, it was a cool experience,” senior Danny Falco said.

“My goals for next year are to make it to state and improve my three mile times,” Perry said.

Perry has been running for three years, and this season was his first year on varsity.

“Running on varsity for the first time is a big difference compared to running on junior varsity, with the courses being longer and more enduring. All in all, it was crazy,” Perry said.

“I have been running on varsity for my two last years and on junior varsity for the first two years at Tracy High. It is pretty much the same thing two miles here and two miles there. It has been an exciting experience,” Falco said.

This was Falco’s last year running for Tracy High’s cross country team as he is a senior.

Both Falco and Perry have been stars on the varsity team with Perry’s best three-mile time being 17:22.

“My favorite course would have to be Frogtown in Angel’s camp because it was my first time coming in first for varsity,”Perry said.

Falco’s best time for a 5K was 16:50, and he hopes to improve on that if he ever runs competitively again.” My favorite course is Lodi Lake because it didn’t have a lot of hills on it,” Falco said.

In sections, both boys ran together and placed in the 30 out of 200. They both helped represent Tracy High well and were an asset to the team.

“In order to be performing at the same level next year, we will need to continue recruiting freshmen, like we did last year to introduce what cross country is and get them at a high performing level,” McCullough said.
