Lorde’s debut album “Pure Heroine” captivates listeners
October 17, 2013
Ella Yelich-O’Connor, known by her stage name Lorde, is a singer songwriter from New Zealand. At the age of 16, she has come out with her debut album “Pure Heroine”. Lorde’s album definitely captivates the listeners with her catchy lyrics and the powerful and soothing beats that are evident in her hit single “Royals”.
What stands out most about this album is that the sound radiates her individuality. Her voice is unique and her music doesn’t sound like anything that is out in the market right now. As you listen to each track, it’s as if you get lost in her music. It’s almost addicting to keep listening especially when the beats drop in “400 Lux” and “Glory and Gore”.
Not only is her music captivating to the listener, Lorde is lyrically strong. Unlike a lot of the popular artists out in the music business, she doesn’t sing about the typical subjects of partying and money.
Her lyrics are actually really humbling. In her song “Royals” she sings, “That kind of luxe just ain’t for us, we crave a different kind of buzz.” She doesn’t crave the luxury of power and control, she would rather live life with more meaning.
A favorite song from the album is, “A World Alone” because of her powerful lyrics and calming beats to compliment it. It talks about how there will always be those bad people in the world that bring you down and although you may feel alone, there will always be someone there for you.
Lyrics like these makes the listener forget that she’s a young 16 year-old girl and this is a good thing. She acts more mature than her age and shows that she’s in this business to do what she loves, which is make music.
As you listen to other albums, sometimes you find yourself skipping through, but with “Pure Heroine” you’ll find yourself fully listening to each and every song.
Overall, Lorde’s album is worth a listen. There is not one song that I don’t like on this album. Considering that this is her first album and it’s produced so well, I would recommend for you to add this into your music collection. It’s definitely one of the best albums of 2013.
