Tracy High girl’s flag football team took home a win Monday evening, Aug. 26, against the Sierra High Timberwolves. With a final score of 18-8, the Bulldogs kept their fans on the edge of their seats as their key players combined skills leading the team to victory.
Within the first half of the game, the Bulldogs displayed their dominance against the Timberwolves by scoring 12 points, leaving Sierra High no room for air.
Izabella Gutierrez, the team’s tailback, started the game off strong with a six-point lead, scoring her first two touchdowns of the night. When asked about her opinions on the high and low points of the night she stressed the importance of attitude.
“The highs and low points today were our attitude,” Gutierrez said. “I think a lot of us need to realize it’s a fun sport and to take it seriously but still have fun. But when we did make good plays, we all supported each other and no matter what we were all there for each other.”
The Bulldog’s safety and wide receiver Bayli Brown continued the team’s lead throughout the end of the first half. At her role of wide receiver, Brown caught a pass from the quarterback making it a touchdown, bringing up the score to 12-0.
As a senior, returning for her second season, Brown wants to go out with bang, not only individually but as a team as well.
“I feel really good, I’m confident in our team, we’ve been practicing all summer, so I think it’ll be a good season for us,” Brown added.
During the final half of the game, the Timberwolves picked up the pace and scored a touchdown along with a two-point conversion, giving them eight points.
With only a few short minutes left, Reanna Zuniga, the left corner and quarterback for the Bulldogs, scored the final point with an interception.
Although an unfortunate loss for the Timberwolves, the girls at Tracy High kicked the season off with an exciting win.
Zuniga gives insight into what she thinks were the main highlights of that night.
“I think the main highlights today were Izzy’s touchdowns and the way we all support each other as a team,” Zuniga said.
With the amount of confidence and dedication the Bulldogs have this year, the girls are destined for another great season at Tracy High.
