After months of rumors, star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and the San Francisco 49ers have agreed to a four-year $120 million contract extension. 

Elijah Castanon, a 49ers fan and junior at Tracy High, expressed how this contract extension will be huge for this 49ers team over the next four years.  

“Aiyuk signing back with the 49ers is a big signing for the team as he is the receiver one and one of the best route runners on the team.” Castanon said. 

Prior to the recent contract extension, the star wide receiver was offered $28 million per year by San Francisco but thought he was worth more than that number. The Pittsburgh Steelers then offered the 49ers several draft picks in order to acquire the star receiver. 

Brian Lindt, a junior at Tracy High and Pittsburgh Steelers fan, expressed why Brandon Aiyuk would have been a major asset to the team if traded.  

“They would become a dynamic team with Aiyuk and George Pickens as their top 2 receivers on the team, and they would have a good shot for a Super Bowl run.” Lindt said.  

The Steelers also reportedly offered Aiyuk a deal in the $28–32 million range to join their team. Aiyuk would have been one of the best players on the Pittsburgh team and a great piece to their offense that has seen many changes as of late.  

There was plenty of chaos going on around Brandon Aiyuk and his potential move to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Since Aiyuk’s contract ending, San Francisco moved to try and extend Aiyuk to a longer-term deal that satisfied that amount of money he believed was right while also working with the budgetary concerns surrounding their needs to keep as many of their star players as they could. 

Dillon Posten, a 49ers fan and senior at Tracy High, expressed how Aiyuk signing back with the 49ers will improve their offensive game and give them another chance to compete for the Lombardi Trophy.  

“He is the only true route runner on the team, so he would make our offensive scheme more impactful, and that will give the 49ers another shot for the trophy.” Posten said. 

After the extension of their superstar receiver, the 49ers look like they are geared up to be one of the best teams in the league yet again.
