The Tracy High girls’ golf season officially started on Thursday, August 8. The team is comprised of five members of different grade levels and skill sets.
The coach, Marc Wescott, is a big part of the team. Wescott gives the players advice on how to improve their swings, learn more about the game, and how to overall get better.
“I look forward to the girls putting in hard work and improving throughout the season,” Wescott said.
About the Players
Melanie Yanke
Yanke is currently a senior at Tracy High and the captain of the team. She has been playing golf for all four years of high school and started because it was something she could do with her dad. Her strengths include her here driver and her irons, and her possible weaknesses are in her short game and not being able to forget a bad shot. Yanke’s average score on 18 is 95.
“This season, I look forward to having fun with my friends and setting new personal records,” Yanke said.
Reese Foster
Foster is currently a junior at Tracy High and has been playing golf for three years now. She ended up joining the golf team because she had friends who played and wanted to try it out. When Foster starts to get in a groove, she tends to get through the match smoothly and plays well. Her possible weakness can be getting in her own head when she starts to struggle a bit. Foster’s average score on 18 is 124.
Rylee Lewis
Lewis is currently a junior at Tracy High and started playing in her freshman year because her dad played and she thought it was a unique sport that not many people play. Her strengths include her hybrids and irons while her possible weakness could be her chipping. Lewis’s average score on 18 is 115.
Chelby Johnson
Johnson is currently a junior at Tracy High and started playing golf in her freshman year because she likes how the sport is calm and she had friends that played. Her strengths are her focus on the game and her range while her possible weakness is getting fatigued quickly. Johnson’s average score on 18 is 104.
“This season, I am looking forward to making memories with the team and improving over the season,” Johnson said.
Angela Avila
Avila is currently a junior at Tracy High and is entering her first year playing the sport. She ended up joining team after going to Top Golf for the first time and having a good experience there.
“My strengths include not overthinking my swing and my game. My weakness is I miss my swing more times than I’d like to admit,” Avila said.
Nadia Nabi
Nabi is currently a junior at Tracy High and only started playing golf this year. She also decided to join the team after a fun experience at Top Golf. Nabi’s strength is her ability to hit the ball far and gets great distance. Her possible weakness could come with her accuracy.
“I look forward to playing in matches and tournaments and improving my game this year,” Nabi said.
The team has a few tournaments and many matches throughout the months of Sept. and Oct. this season. Overall, they are looking forward to a successful and fun season.
