As homecoming approaches, excitement is in the air at Tracy High School. Students from all grade levels are busy participating in this year’s flower parties, which are crucial for preparing class skits and floats for this year’s festivities.
Held from Sept. 16-27, these gatherings take place on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. They offer students a chance to come together and showcase their creativity. Students who participate in all four flower parties get the chance to help build their class float all day on Oct. 4 and skip class.
Claire Posten, a sophomore at Tracy High, elaborated on how flower parties help build class spirit.
“I think flower parties help a lot with class spirit, brings people together and it is so much fun,” Posten stated. “It shows that even if you aren’t a fun class, you can still put in effort to be the best.”
At these flower parties, students create flowers using coffee filters that will be attached to chicken wire to create skirts for their class float. Each class has a designated area on campus where their flower parties take place. Seniors work in the cafeteria, juniors in room D210, sophomores in the girls’ sub gym, and freshmen in the theater.
In addition to crafting flowers, each grade is developing a skit that aligns with this year’s homecoming theme “Teenage Dream.” These skits will be performed during the school’s night rally which takes place Oct. 2, adding an entertaining element to the celebration.
Freshman will take on “Grease,” sophomores will showcase “Camp Rock,” juniors will feature “Teen Beach Movie,” and seniors will represent “High School Musical.”
Junior Lily Andish highlighted the involvement of students for this year’s homecoming.
“Everyone just likes to get involved, boys and girls,” Andish expressed. “Our skit is going really well, and it’s super fun because our theme is Teen Beach Movie.”
Grace Witbeck, Tracy High’s Senior Leadership President, expressed her favorite aspect of the flower parties.
“Bringing everyone together is what I love most,” Witbeck grinned. “It’s like a group hangout, but we prepare for the float and build things together. The camaraderie of it all is very fun.”
As homecoming approaches, students focus on the creative aspects of their floats, trying to claim the first-place spot. Tracy High School is set for what they hope will be a memorable homecoming celebration, with a night rally that will showcase creativity, teamwork and competition.
As students refine their performance and prepare decorations for their floats, the fun concludes when the homecoming float winner is announced at the Tracy High versus Edison football game during halftime.
The countdown to homecoming is on, with students ready to participate.
