New York held their 2024 Fall fashion week on September 6th through the 11th at Spring Studios, Skylight on Moynihan, Eyebeam, Gallery, and The Shed. This year became New York’s 81st year doing their fashion week.
New York fashion week started in 1943 by Eleanor Lambert, but she called it “Press Week”. Lambert first created “Press Week” to draw attention away from French fashion during World War II.
Many designers participated in this year’s fall 2024 NYFW (New York Fashion Week) and over 70 designers have been confirmed. Some of the returning designers are 3.1 Phillip Lim, Altuzarra, Anna Sui, AnOnlyChild, Area, Bach Mai, Bibhu Mohapatra, Brandon Maxwell, Carolina Herrera, Coach, Collina Strada, Dennis Basso, Eckhaus Latta, Elena Velez, Fforme, Frederick Anderson, Gabriela Hearst, Jason Wu, Jonathan Cohen, Kevan Hall, Khaite, LaPointe, LaQuan Smith, Luar, Michael Kors, Prabal Gurung, Proenza Schouler, Puppets & Puppets, Sandy Liang, Sergio Hudson, Theophilio, Tibi, Tory Burch, Ulla Johnson, and Willy Chavarria.
“I love how every artist does something different and you can see they all had a different vision even though it’s all part of a fall collection,” Lily Saurez, A student at Tracy high school, said. “You can see the different change in seasons and how they went from a light airy vibe to darker and it shows more skin,”Saurex exclaimed when showed collections from Oliva+Alice from spring and fall.
New York fashion week is held every year. They have one for spring/summer and for fall/winter. The shows usually last up to seven to nine days
New York is not the only place that holds a Fashion week. The “Big Four” Are Paris, New York, London, and Milan, but Tokyo has also been debated on whether it should be added to become the “Big Five.”
“I Would love to see other countries fashion weeks! I think it would be nice to see how the style differs in various places!” Alondra Rodriguez Gonzalez a Tracy High student, says. “I think participating as a model in NYFW would be hard but also a fun experience!” Rodriguez also said.
This year’s fall/winter collection contained artists that had many different ideas and inspirations for their pieces, but all remained in the same collection. Most students felt that the fall and winter collection was nice and they all complimented each other nicely. “They do not really seem like they belong in a winter/fall collection. They show a lot of skin to be considered a part of it and do not give off a fall vibe,” Valeria Valllejo said, disagreeing with the majority.
Every designer who participated in the September NYFW worked hard on their designs and many people await to see the 2025 spring collection.
