Tracy High School turned up the nostalgia for its 2024 Homecoming with a “Teenage Dream” theme that had every class embody the spirit of beloved teen movies. Each grade level brought to life an iconic film that defined their chosen era, blending music, dance and movie magic into this year’s festivities.
The freshmen class threw it back to the 1950s with their theme based on “Grease,” the classic teen musical that embodies greasers, poodle skirts and high school romance.
Students worked on dance routines that paid tribute to the film’s memorable choreography, recreating the iconic scenes like the school dance and the drive-in movie.
“We chose grease because it’s a classic and the movie is very enjoyable,” freshman class president Avni Gahonia said. “I think it set a good tone to freshman year and made fun memories along the way!”
The sophomores channeled the 2000s Disney Channel hit “Camp Rock,” leaning into the movie’s focus on music, self-expression, and summer camp adventures.
“We felt like it fit in with the crowd of our class,” sophomore class president Ishnoor Bhinder shared. “There was a lot of combined roles in the movie which helped us choreograph everyone into our skit.”
For the juniors, the surf’s up with “Teen Beach Movie” as their chosen theme. This 2013 Disney Channel film combines elements of classic beach party films with a modern twist.
“Everyone liked the opportunity that the movie presented,” junior class president Grace Finton said. “We agreed that having a movie that majority of people have seen or heard of was in our best interest.”
This interest set the mood for the junior class’s Homecoming week in their run for the Most Spirited title.
As for the class of 2025, the seniors were given “High School Musical,” the ultimate Disney Channel classic, as their theme.
The film, which revolves around high school life, friendships, and the challenges of senior year, resonates deeply with the seniors as they prepare to graduate.
Performances included a medley from the movies like “We’re All in This Together” and “Fabulous,” capturing the energy and spirit of their final year at Tracy High.
“I knew that it was a movie that a lot of us watched growing up,” senior class president Grace Witbeck said. “Taking into account “High School Musical” three about senior year, it seemed fitting.”
Tracy High School’s Homecoming also features class competitions, including skits, dance routines, and the annual powderpuff game, where each class will use their chosen film to outshine the others in spirit and creativity.
Students worked tirelessly after school to bring their vision to life, with each class hoping to claim the desired Spirit Week trophy.
As Tracy High School geared up for the big event, it was clear that this year’s Homecoming was going to be a true “Teenage Dream,” capturing the essence of high school life through the lens of the iconic films that defined it.
