Jacobus Brakkee, a senior at Tracy High School, recently committed to play golf at William Jessup University.
Brakkee is currently the captain of the golf team at Tracy High. He has been playing the sport for seven years. He started playing golf after his dad put him into lessons and inspired him to play.
“I started playing golf as kind of an outing from all the other sports I played and to try something new,” Brakkee stated.
Brakkee got to where he is now by starting in the Professional Golfers’ Association Junior League and playing in smaller tournaments. He started to lock into the sport when he was around the age of 13.
“I started to really focus on the sport when I started playing in larger tournaments,” Brakkee explained. “It’s also around this time that I started to really enjoy the sport.”
Brakkee hasn’t always been the golfer he is today. He strives for greatness and practices for hours on end to perfect his craft and get better at the sport he loves.
One specific way he practices is by spending multiple hours on the putting green. Practicing to improve the weakest part of his game and working on his consistency to ensure he can surpass his competition.
Accomplishing many great things during his golf career, some of his proudest ones include the numerous large tournaments that he has played in and winning somewhere between five and 10 tournaments.
Brakkee came upon the opportunity to commit to Jessup University by expressing an interest and reaching out to the coach. The coach was interested and wanted to keep in touch.
By continuing to share with the coach how his tournaments were progressing, the coach became more interested in having Brakkee come play for them. This eventually led to a visit, then an offer and then finally to Brakkee’s commitment on Sept. 17.
Brakkee is looking forward to a successful upcoming season, where he has high aspirations to win many matches, tournaments and come first in league.
