On Nov. 7th, Tracy High will be hosting the opening night of their production of A Christmas Carol. They have spent the past month preparing for the live production.
The beginning of their rehearsals starts with vocal warmups, like “Red Leather, Yellow Leather,” just like a scene from High School Musical when Sharpay and Ryan Evans used vocal warm ups before their big performance.
After this, the cast went backstage to begin running through the scenes.
“I know it like seems like a silly thing, but it is hard to do, it’s also super fun, and I love the connection it brings,” said Theo Masters, a senior stage hand who has been a part of theatre since their freshman year.
Many of the cast members echoed the sentiment that being in drama is more difficult than most people think.
The director of this play, Diane Whitney would agree that acting isn’t as easy as it looks. Especially when it comes to getting into character.
“Be committed to it. Be open to someone else’s point of view,” Whitney shared, explaining how to best get into character.
“It’s like a peak into the magic of theatre creating this immersion for people,” Masters added, explaining how being on stage made them feel.
Although much of the cast was missing for rehearsals, Whitney claims that it’s just part of the normal struggles of putting on a live production like this.
“They follow up with each other and make sure they’re still in the loop,” Whitney said.
“One of the things we’re really trying to make sure we do have is just that all of the cast is there for each other,” Whitney elaborated. Whitney believes it is important for the cast to get along in order for a show to be successful.
“I love rehearsals,” said Grace Mcfadden Smith. “Because everyone’s able to come together. No one really takes any advice as criticism,” Mcfadden Smith continued, explaining her favorite part about preparing for a show.
