The Tracy High girls basketball team has all new coaches this year. Varsity Head Coach Rob Ocon, junior varsity (JV) Head Coach Anothony Colvard and freshmen sophomore (frosh) Head Coach Anne Langley. All coaches have had previous experience in coaching basketball and have expressed their excitement to start a new chapter at Tracy High.
“I’ve coached basketball for 15 years at various levels over that time period, I coached at Heritage High School and Saint Mary’s,” Ocon said. “The staff and I are excited about the possibilities and opportunities here at Tracy High School”.
Coach Langley played at girls’ basketball at Tracy High in the 80s.
“Now I am back at my alma matter, coaching with my niece who also played for Tracy,” Langley said, emphasizing the importance of education. “Helping them grow not just as an athlete but as a student athlete will help them in life moving forward.”
JV coach Colvard is excited for this new year with the girls. Colvard has previously coached in rehabilitation team sport settings for five years.
“I see a ton of potential in this group of girls,” Colvard said, not only wanting to do good for the girls but also the environment. “My hope is that I can impact this program in a positive way wherever I can.”
The girls are already warming up to the new coaches. Feeling optimistic about their upcoming season, the senior girls especially feel like they are in safe hands.
Elena Gamboa, a senior on the team, feels confident going into her final season playing basketball.
“I’m excited for my last year and am looking forward to learning a lot of new things from the coaches,” Gamboa said.
The basketball coaches strive to rebuild the girls basketball program to being its absolute best.
“The girls have our staff’s full commitment and we look forward to building memories and bringing tradition back to Tracy High School,” Ocon said.
The first scrimmage will be held at Tracy High on Nov. 16. The frosh game will start at 8-9:30 a.m. and varsity at 10 -12 a.m.
