With the conclusions of the conference championships, there are two leading candidates fighting for the Heisman Trophy, the award annually given to the most outstanding college football player, that would cement their spot in history along with plenty of other football legends that won the award in previous years.
Travis Hunter, the star player for the Colorado Buffalos, had an incredible 2024 campaign in which he was a top player on both sides of the ball at wide receiver and cornerback.
Ashton Jeanty, the star running back for Boise State, made his name this season and propelling himself into the Heisman race by dominating every team he faced on the ground with unreal stats as he is also on pace to break Barry Sanders’ single-season rushing record.
Dillon Posten, a senior at Tracy High School, expressed his opinion on who should be crowned with the 2024 Heisman Trophy.
“I think Ashton Jeanty should win the Heisman over Travis Hunter because he’s been more valuable to Boise State,” Posten said. “Jeanty’s consistent performance and game-changing plays have been a huge part of the team’s success, making him a standout player and a key reason for their victories.”
Jeanty has been proving his case every week to win the Heisman after topping incredible games every week even when you thought it couldn’t be beaten.
This year, Jeanty took 344 carries, going for 2,497 yards on the ground with a total of 29 touchdowns.
Dylan Hazelbaker, a senior at Tracy High School, expressed why he believes Travis Hunter will be the winner of the Heisman trophy.
“Travis hunter should win the Heisman because the award is for the most outstanding player in college football,” explained Hazelbaker. “He affects the game in a way that no other player does on both sides of the ball.”
Hunter’s dominance on both offense and defense has done more than enough to plead his case for the Heisman trophy.
Hunter had 92 receptions for 1,152 yards with 14 touchdowns while playing almost every snap of the game on defense as well. He also racked up four interceptions while being one of the best cornerbacks in the nation.
Tarun Saravanan, a senior at Tracy High School, expressed why Hunter should win the Heisman over Ashton Jeanty.
“I think Travis Hunter should win Heisman because there is no other player like him playing both ways and being the best at both positions,” said Saravanan.
Even though there are four finalists for the Heisman Trophy, Jeanty and Hunter are the clear favorites in one of the most debated Heisman races in quite some time.
