On Saturday, Jan. 11, Tracy High girls basketball faced Edison in a well-anticipated game, the Bulldogs defeated the Vikings 49-30.
Freshman starting guard, Xiana Yanez explained how her first season has been going.
“I love playing with my team, we all have our own skill sets that help us excel,” Yanez said. “Once we all come together and find each other on the court then we can be unstoppable.”
To start off the game, the Bulldogs and Vikings battled back and forth, ending the first quarter 9-3, Bulldogs leading.
Senior Elisa Galli, the varsity team’s starting center, explained how her season has gone so far.
“With this being my last year, I really want to make the most of it,” Galli said. “My team came together this game and I loved seeing how successful we are when we work together.”
As both teams fought hard, Tracy came out on top going into half time, extending their lead 21-9.
“The Edison game was a good start heading mid-way into the season. We have great kids who come and work hard, growth will take time,” Varsity Coach Rob said. “I love our team, and I believe they can be really good, they just need to believe it themselves.”
By quarter three Edison gained momentum and scored in the last 13 seconds, bringing the score to 39-24. Both teams fought hard until the end.
Edison continued to stay in the game by making a comeback, but in the end they fell just shy with the final score of 49-30. The girls believed they had a good game and want to continue growing this program into better for the school, community and future of the THS girls basketball program.
