Tracy High School’s softball program is set to kick off the season with tryouts beginning Jan. 27, 2025 and continuing for two weeks. Following an impressive record of 25-5-1 last year, fans anticipate another excellent performance from the varsity team this year.
With high expectations and a strong program, Tracy High aims to deliver another standout year on the field. The Bulldogs are a well-experienced team due to a previous run in the San Joaquin Division 2 Championship last season.
Despite a hard-fought battle, they fell short, losing 7-5 against Rocklin High School. After the Rocklin game, they had two more games beating Central 5-3 and their last game was a tough loss to Willow Glen 3-2.
This season, the Varsity team is looking for a new left fielder and catcher. Their old left fielder had a batting average of .355 and batted third in the lineup. The starting catcher had batted fourth in the lineup with a batting average was .270.
Paulette Keeney is the softball coach for the Varsity softball team, she has coached this program for 10 years and counting.
“Tryouts are going well, I have several returning players and I am looking forward to adding some new ones,” Keeney said. “I am also looking forward to watching our team grow in skill, confidence and teamwork. This year I plan on making playoffs and there is a big possibility that we will win first in the league.”
The teams previous starting catcher is now at the college level as a starting outfielder at Tusculum University in Tennessee. Tusculum has a competitive softball program performing in the Division II.
The previous starting left fielder is committed to Dominican University of California in San Rafael California. She will be attending Dominican in Aug. 2025. She has transferred to Liberty Ranch High School to finish her high school career.
Shortstop Emalee Cargil, a junior who is committed to University of California Berkley, completed a very successful sophomore season, batting second in the lineup with a batting average of .333.
“My goals this season are to have fun and play with a good mindset,” Cargil said “I also want to help my team in any situation and for us to win. My favorite memory from last season is when we beat Lodi 9-1 after losing the game to them before and having dinner at Texas Roadhouse with the team after the game.”
Senior pitcher Elisa Galli spent her freshman year at Saint Mary’s but transferred to Tracy High, her sophomore year. Galli has 256 strike outs during her softball career \ at Tracy High.
Sophomore outfielder Taylor Sansaver hit lead off for the Bulldogs, averaging .520 during the 2024 season.
Sansaver sprained her right ankle and is hoping for a fast recovery so she can enjoy her upcoming season playing for the Bulldogs.
“I am currently out for a couple weeks with a bad ankle sprain,” Sansaver said. “I am hoping to be back by Feb. 15 and I go to physical therapy everyday to improve putting weight on my ankle”
The bulldogs are eager to see what this season will bring with changes on the diamond.
