Social Justice Day, a day motivated to create equality for people and have everybody feel included. It takes place on Feb. 20 and is being celebrated all around the world.
It was started in 2007, by the United States General Assembly (USGA). Making it a worldwide day for all countries to celebrate.
“During 2020, the BLM movements really brought my attention to Social Justice,” Rodger Reyes, a student enrolled in Tracy High School. “A social justice issue that needs more recognition is the fact that some ethnicities and colors tend to be treated differently, and it isn’t okay and has to be taken care of.”
Reyes further discusses social justice by mentioning, “A rule I would change would be people getting punished for wrongdoings to other people.” This interview shows how social justice day is commonly recognized.
Social Justice day became popular in countries from Southern Asia, Africa and Australia. It is a big day for everybody, encouraging peace and fairness.
“I have never heard of Social Justice Day, but I support social justice. People always say and tell me they want to put an end to racism, but they never do anything to try and put racism to an end,” Caleb Khimthang, a student of Tracy High enrolled in AVID
There is a series of five events throughout major cities, all throughout the world held by the ILO.
“Human rights are not only violated by terrorism, repression, or assassination, but also unfair economic structures that create huge inequalities,” Pope Francis, a high authority and respected figure in Vatican City.
“There is too much enforcement on religion upon people, religion bias is a big thing I’d change,” Marcos Lopez, a student at Tracy High School. “Bringing religion into politics divides more than it brings people together.”
Other people of high influence spoke about Social Justice Day, Greta Thunberg and Nelson Mandela. They are from different parts of the world and show how acknowledged Social Justice Day is worldwide.
Many people from all ages, countries and different religions have a strong foundation for Social Justice, supporting the amazing day and the aim for equality for everybody.
