The Tracy High girls’ basketball team celebrated their seniors in their final game of the season as they hosted West High on Thurs. Feb. 13. With two key players out of the game, the Bulldogs fought hard on their senior night but ultimately fell short with a final score of 54-44.
Kyrrah Dowell, Gabbie Hernandez and Reanna Zuniga guard were the key players in the game.
The Bulldogs started off the game with a fight. The Wolfpack scored the first few points but the Bulldogs pushed their way to an even score when they were not in the lead. The team’s center, Elisa Galli, and point guard, Xiana Yanez, were out of the game despite their contributions the entire season.
Gabbie Hernandez commented on how she felt the game was affected that night.
“It was a little more difficult because we were all so used to playing with them since they were in the games consistently throughout the season but either way we worked it through,” Hernandez said.
The game against the Wolfpack was also the girl’s senior night. Which gave them an even bigger motivation to persevere.
The Bulldogs had even more motivation to persevere due to it being the last time their seniors would step on the court.
Reanna Zuniga, one of the many seniors on the team, reminisced on how she felt playing her final game and how she thinks the season played out.
“My mindset going into tonight was to just try my best because it’ll be my last ever high school game and it was just kind of sentimental because I’ve been playing with this team for almost four years,” Zuniga added.
The Bulldogs were defeated by 10 points with a final score of 54-44, making their final record 12-13 overall and 2-6 in league.
Starting guard, Kyrrah Dowell, wanted to leave a final piece of advice to her lower classmen teammates and future Bulldogs.
“Make the most of your time in high school because it goes by sooner than you think,” Dowell commented.
With a bittersweet end to the season, the girls showcased their skills throughout the year.
