On Friday, Feb. 28, 2025, Tracy High’s Bulldog Project paid its annual visit to Tom Hawkins Elementary School to educate students about the club, how to get involved on campus, why bullying is harmful, and what they can do to stop it when they see something wrong.
In previous years, this event focused primarily on the anti-bullying aspect of the club. However, this year, Bulldog Project’s leadership took a different approach.
“This year, Bulldog Project has been working on building itself back up after a year of not being able to function,” said Susana Mascarenhas, one of the club’s presidents.
The presentation still included familiar elements, such as student testimonies from Tracy High students. One speaker, freshman Anthony Correia, is involved in various activities on campus, including the water polo team, leadership, and AgFFA.
“It was such a great opportunity to show kids everything that high school can be,” said Correia about having the chance to share his experiences at Tracy High.
The event also featured beloved Tracy High junior varsity football coaches Nelson Guillen and Johnnie Oh. Both coaches emphasized the importance of finding a community and support system upon entering high school.
“I was nervous,” said Guillen, the head coach of the junior varsity team. “It was different than talking to my boys. There were so many of them.”
Guillen also served as the DJ for the event, playing upbeat songs to keep the students engaged and entertained throughout the presentation.
Additionally, the presentation featured a skit about two different groups who initially did not get along because of their differences. The skit concluded with the groups realizing that their differences were not a bad thing and that they could become friends because of them.
Bulldog Project continues to spread its message of inclusivity, tolerance, and anti-bullying to the Tom Hawkins campus, helping to strengthen the Bulldog community as these students prepare to enter Tracy High over the next three years.
