The end of this year’s exciting March Madness competition is approaching with the start of the Final Four on Saturday, April 5.
The final four teams are the Duke Blue Devils, Florida Gators, Auburn Tigers and Houston Cougars.
The Duke Blue Devils are led by coach Jon Scheyer and they hold a 35-3 record this season. Freshman star Cooper Flagg has been a huge part in Dukes success this season and is being compared to a long list of the program’s legends.
The Florida Gators are led by coach Todd Golden, who has led the Gators to match Duke’s record of this season at 35-3. The Gators have made their first Final Four appearance since 2014. This season has consisted of teamwork with their star players stepping up in big moments.
Dillon Posten, a senior at Tracy High School and fan of college basketball, expressed why this is a big moment in sports history.
“With the Final Four being all one seeds, we can expect to see a high level of basketball being played and teams fighting for the trophy,” Posten said.
The star guard for the Gators, Walter Clayton Jr., is arguably the best guard in the country this season. He is averaging 18.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, 4.2 assists and shooting 86.5% from the free throw line.
Brian Lindt, a junior at Tracy High School and fan of March Madness as well, expressed why March Madness is such a big event.
“March Madness feels like I’m watching basketball players fighting for the hard-earned trophy,” Lindt said.
The Auburn Tigers, who are led by coach Bruce Pearl, stand with a 32-5 record and are aiming for the team’s first national title. Star player Johni Broome has shown excellent stats this season to lead the Tigers where they are currently.
Dylan Hazelbaker, a senior at Tracy High School and a fan of the Duke Blue Devils, expressed why he thinks Duke is an unstoppable team.
“Duke is a team full of unselfish players that want to just win,” Hazelbaker said. “Watching them is like watching an NBA team and this is why I think Duke can go get the trophy and not be stopped.”
The Houston Cougars, who are led by coach Kelvin Sampson, hold a 34-4 record and are seeking their first championship since 1984. The Cougars rely mainly on good teamwork and ball movement to lead toward their success.
The Final Four games are scheduled for April 5 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, with the championship game taking place on Mon., April 7.
