The man behind the camera, Stu Jossey, has left a legacy at Tracy High School that nobody else can match. After 19 years of taking photos for the school, everyone is excited to find him at any event with his camera. Assistant varsity football coach Nathaniel Shelton expressed Jossey’s impact at Tracy High School.
“You can’t tell the story about anything that’s happened at Tracy High without Stu Jossey,” Shelton said.
Jossey is the photographer for all of Tracy High School athletics, but his skills extend far beyond that. His photography is recognized all throughout California by multiple businesses and schools.
With over 37 years of professional photography experience, Jossey has had the opportunity to work for a wide range of clients. From high school sports to real estate, Jossey has done it all.
His journey with Tracy High began in 2006 when his children were students. Looking to capture the full essence of their sports, he asked the coaches and athletic director for approval to get up close to the action.
It was with their support that his journey began. He soon began creating websites along with other social media components for Tracy High School Sports.
“The staff at Tracy High for the past 19 years have been extremely supportive of what I do,” Jossey continued. “I recently began helping Yearbook and that is very rewarding, knowing I am creating lifelong memories through my images.”
Along with preserving the victories and hardships of Tracy High Sports, Jossey is known for his mentorship and kindness toward student photographers. Junior student photographer and athlete Caylen Jones has been personally impacted by Jossey’s support.
“His support has helped me grow in confidence for photography. Especially in terms of talking to coaches and getting to know players,” Jones said. “He inspires me to work more effectively and to focus more on quality than anything else.”
One of the main reasons Jossey continues his photography work is his ongoing drive to capture his greatest photo.
“I’ve probably taken over 500,000 photos and I have probably a couple hundred that I’m super proud of, but I’m always in search of my best,” Jossey said. “I think that is what motivates me each day to photograph more. I’ll always be looking for my greatest photo.”
After nearly two decades of being a part of the Bulldog family, Jossey claims that the most rewarding part is being able to share students’ stories with their families.
“Occasionally, I’ll get a note from a family member out of state who cannot attend a local school event and they are grateful I’m documenting their son, daughter, or coach.” Jossey said.
With a long-standing presence at events and a strong connection to the school, Jossey continues to play a significant role in the community by sharing the story of Tracy High School.
