Every year during May, advanced drama and technical theater receives their final. Their final is to direct and perform one-act shows for everyone to see.
This year’s finals were two mysteries called “The Mother Goose Mystery” and “Clue in the Library” and they were directed by Dimitri Jobe and Grace Mcfadden Smith.
The two one-act shows were performed on May 15. and 16. The shows were approximately half an hour each and started at 7 p.m.
The first show was “Clue in the Library” this one act followed a story of a library about to be demolished but a body was found inside. “I think it was a very fun final to perform, and even though some things went wrong, I think we did well,” Diya Mohan, who played Eunice Davenport in “Clue in the Library”.
Three teenagers are trying to save the library by finding the old owners’ treasure, while higher ups want to demolish the old library. After finding the body, the three teenagers go back after night and end up finding the treasure after help from the library assistant.
The murderer is eventually caught, and the treasure is revealed to be a paper signed by Shakespeare. “I bet many people were shocked at the end, and they seemed to enjoy it!” Exclaimed Lorenzo Morals who played Saul, Grundy in “Clue in the Library”.
The second one-act follows the murder of a famous publisher called “Mother Goose,” and everyone is a suspect. This story ultimately becomes extremely complicated and even has a touch of romance in the midst.
The two one-acts make good use of the stage and even use the front of the stage and back-room doors. “It was very fun to use more than just the stage and be able to pop though doors and have flashlights in the dark house,” Alanna Dye said who played Mary Lamb in “The Mother Goose Mystery”.
The audience wasn’t filled, but the crowd who saw the show were laughing and on the edge of their seats at the plot twists.
