On Monday, the Tracy High girls flag football team defeated the Millenium Falcons with a score of 26-12, after a burst of momentum in the second half.
Head coach Chris Myers highlights the performance of his sophomore players being the key to tonight’s victory.
“If we work hard, we have a ton of potential because there’s a lot of sophomores on this team,” Myers stated. “We have the ability to be an amazing team for this season.”
The game began with a touchdown from sophomore Eden Fry. Despite two strong drives, there was no scoring in the second quarter, leaving the Bulldogs ahead 6-0 at halftime.
The third quarter of the game saw the most action with another touchdown by Fry and two touchdowns from Millenium to tie up the score at 12.
“I think we started off a little rough,” Fry admitted. “But we really picked up our energy in the second half and we kept it up.”
Fry then scored her third touchdown of the game giving the Bulldogs a seven-point lead at 19-12.
After throwing all three previous touchdown passes, quarterback Adrianna Powers got a piece of the action and scored her own touchdown and conversion to seal the score at 26-12.
“Despite feeling good about throwing the five touchdowns I feel I could have done better,” Powers said. “At practice is when I would focus on that.”
Myers reflected on his team’s performance.
“The girls have potential,” Myers stated. “This is sure to be a great season.”
The varsity girls will take on Grant at home on Wednesday night, Aug 27, and the Downey Squad on Tuesday, September 2.
