For the 2025 season Chris Meyer’s steps up to the head coach position of Tracy High’s Girls Flag Football team.
“I have wanted to do the job since it opened three years ago,” Myers explained.
In previous seasons, Myers was accompanied by two other coaches.
“I was coaching with Dave Brown and Tom Ohara last year,” he recalled “we wanted to do it all together because we were colleagues and friends,” he added.
Myers was then left on his own this season after both Brown and Ohara decided to resign last season. Yet in his three years here, he found that he wanted to continue coaching the team.
“I can still do it,” Myers expressed, “I want to do it by myself.”
Myers had a previous background in coaching boys’ high school football but does not regret switching to coaching girls flag football.
“Well, I coached high school football for 21 years, and it was good while I did it, but girls are just different,” he relinquished.
Myers happened to be supported by Junior Varsity Coach Chris Bustos.
“We work really well,” Bustos mentioned, “I think we have a good dynamic.”
Myers daughters have been on the Flag Football team in previous years, so Myers was already familiar with many girls on the team.
His earlier experience coaching around Tracy has also aided him.
“I know a lot of the girls already because my daughters were seniors here last year, and I’ve coached in town for a while,” he confirmed.
Meyers shares that he already holds a good relationship with the team.
“I like coaching the girls, they’re awesome,” Meyers expressed.
Varsity player Kimberly Hernandez has been a part of the flag football team for two years. She notes how since the shift in coaches happened, there has been an apparent change.
“It’s just a different mood,” Hernandez continued. “I like his coaching. It’s hard, but it pays off.”
According to Myers, passion and dedication to the team helps produce success on the field.

“As soon as they know you have their best interest, then they’ll pretty much run through the wall for you,” he admired.
