‘Nothing Was Ths Same’

Drake’s third album “Nothing Was The Same” (NWTS) had instant success. It appeals to the emotions of the listener by using Drake’s experiences from past relationships to infuse his true feelings into his lyrics.

You can see the change Drake went through since his last album “Take Care”. Noah “40” Sheibib co-produced most of the album. He captured Drake’s dark side, making the album more fluid, while mixing in the inspiration of 90s R&B and Houston rap.

Each song in “NTWS” is a story of its own; it shows the progression of Drake from who he was, to who he is becoming. The storytelling is filled with flashbacks, acceptance of wrongdoing and unshakeable pride.
While Drake does rap of love lost and loneliness, making listeners attend to their feelings, he also delivers his confidence through his rhymes.

My three favorite songs from the album are:

“Tuscan Leather” a song about Drake knowing of his own greatness, and makes sure the listeners are aware. This is the “NWTS” introduction. Most of the song is rapping, so it’s fun to listen to.

“Hold On, We’re Going Home” is a song about Drake’s love for a girl. In the music video his lover is kidnapped. Drake and his posse then have to find and save her. This is a wedding reception type of song.

“Started From The Bottom” is about the underlying theme for the album, fame. Drake going from rags to riches with the same people around him he had started with. This is a good pump up song before games.

“NWTS” is an album for all types of music listeners. It showcases Drake’s new style of rapping and his dominance of the rap game. “NWTS” is a great album to buy.
