On September 20, 2025, Tracy Parks and Recreation Department held the Tri at the Triangle Youth Triathlon at Dr. Powers Park where the kids get to show off their skills and have fun at the same time.
Parents at the event explain their stance on the triathlon.
“I told them about this event,” bragged Richard Stowe. “They had so much fun.”

To make the Triathlon more fair for younger participants, the Recreation Department split up the event into different age groups, each with different distances. Each age group had half an hour to complete all three races, but the varying distances made it even.
Parents were appreciative of the idea of splitting age groups.
“That was a great idea,” Stowe continued. “Splitting up the participants.”
An 8-year-old participant, Summer Cardenas, expresses how much fun the event was.
“This was some of the most fun I had,” Cardenas explained. “I would love to do it again.”
The different distances varied by 50 yards in the swimming section, half a mile in the biking and quarter a mile in the running section.
Zayaan Muhammed, an 11-year-old contestant, explains that the triathlon was not made to be a race.
“The triathlon wasn’t actually a race,” Muhammed states. “It was all for fun.”
After the end of the triathlon, the participants were gifted a snack bag for their effort, and they were given a medal to remember their victory that took place in Dr Powers Park.
Parents gave permission for the children’s interviews
