Tracy High’s girls’ tennis team didn’t go to playoffs, but three players will advance to the section tournament. Melanie Markovic as a single player, and Maisy Green and Camille McDaniel as doubles players.

Green and McDaniel took second in the league tournament and Markovic also placed second on Oct.24 and 25.

“The team and I are doing really well. I was excited to go to the semifinals,” Green said.

Although the girls were disappointed that they did not come in first, they thought they did well and are confident that they will play well in sections.

“I am disappointed that Camille and I lost, but I have confidence that we will win our next match,” Green said.

McDaniel thought that her performance in the semifinals gave her more confidence to do better in sections.

“We are playing very well. I feel that we all have a lot more confidence in ourselves,” McDaniel said.

Markovic lost in the singles final to the defending champion. She placed second, and will also go to sections along with Green and McDaniel.

“I think I am doing well, but I am still disappointed that I lost,” Markovic said.

Demsher is proud of the girls and the team for their hard work. They had improvements to make and the girls did that by working harder at practices.

“If you ask the girls themselves, I don’t think that they would have imagined that they had gotten this far and that they had did so well in the semifinals,” Demsher said.

The league record for the girls’ tennis team was 7 – 3, with an overall record of 11 – 3.

“Demsher is a really good coach. Although he can be intimidating, he motivates us to play harder and win,” Markovic said.

The girls feel that Demsher pushes them to work harder and motivates them to become a better team.

“This is my best year. I have played since freshman year, and I have become a better tennis player,” McDaniel said.

The girls will continue to make more improvements so they can try to bring home a first place trophy.

“We will do better in the section tournament to get back to finals, so we can win that first place trophy,” Green said.
