Black Friday violence gets worse each year
December 5, 2013
Black Friday is a violent day when people will do anything to get deals on expensive items in order to save some money, including starting stampedes and fights. Black Friday is always the Friday after Thanksgiving and allows people to buy things before Christmas for a lower cost.
Black Friday originated to allow stores to improve sales to put them “in the black” for the year. “Black” refers to the accounting practice of recording losses in red and profits in black.
I am against Black Friday because of all of the bad stuff people will do to get the low prices. People get trampled over in a race to get to electronics. Some people will bring weapons to defend themselves, and this year a woman even brought a Taser to a Walmart.
I understand stores are trying to make these incidents stop by extending the good prices for a couple days, and even guaranteeing the items for purchase as long as you are in line for a period of time before the store opens, but this is still not enough to stop the violent incidents from happening. This is obvious, because there were still many incidents that happened this year.
Another alternative to Black Friday is Cyber Monday. I like Cyber Monday because it allows people to get those good deals and allowing them to stay with family on Thanksgiving. The only drawback to Cyber Monday is there are limited stocks of each item. People have to get online as soon as they can or the items might be out of stock before they can get the good deals. It is still a way to stay away from the incidents of Black Friday.
I think Black Friday should be banned as a practice because it only leads to violence and destruction for only a tiny reward in savings.
