As prom is approaching, many juniors and seniors start to think about who they want to ask to be their date. This year, prom takes place at the Sunol Country Club on April 5. from 9 p.m. to midnight. Prom bids are on sale and cost $80 per couple and $50 per single in the bookkeeper’s office.

Many boys have put a lot of thought in creative ways to ask girls to prom. They wanted to make sure that they asked in a thoughtful and memorable way.

Senior Derek Paris asked senior Keara O’Brien to prom after school in the parking lot. He took a parking spot and laid sand on the ground, he then laid out chairs, towels, and buckets to create the beach theme. Across his chest he wrote, “Keara Prom?” and said “I’m shore that prom will be great with you.”

“I knew Keara loved the beach, and that I wanted to use it when I asked her to prom, I just didn’t know how to get her there,” Paris said. “I was talking to my friend Dalton Gualco about it and he gave me the idea to just bring the beach to her, so I did. I loaded my truck with beach supplies and 200 pounds of sand. I then spent all of sixth period setting it up with my friend Rachael.”

Senior Dennis Nyguen had a simple and unique way of asking his date Taylor Hurlock to prom. He got a bunch of tennis balls and put them in the fence to spell out prom and he had a poster with her name on it.

“I knew that Taylor played tennis, and I thought incorporating tennis balls would be a perfect way to ask her to prom,” Nyguen said.

Senior Dalton Gualco asked his girlfriend Rachael Rodrigues in a personal way. Gualco’s poster said “You’re a perfect 10… and I thought I loved you then, Prom with you was the best it could’ve been…how about we go again?”

Since it was their 10 month anniversary when he asked her to prom, he thought that it fit perfectly. The reason Gualco put “and I thought I loved you then” was because those were lyrics from their song ‘Then’ by Brad Paisley.

“Prior to the day I asked her, Rachael kept harassing me for when she would be asked. Knowing I couldn’t put it off any longer, I decided to think of a cute and clever way to ask her,”Gualco said. “She is really into Olaf, from Frozen, so for a while I tried to make something cute out of that, but I couldn’t think of anything that had to do with prom. Since our 10 months was coming up, I wanted to just ask her then. I had many people involved in the plan, from my friends delivering roses, to classmates making a giant poster. Asking Rachael to prom was very nerve racking, so I’m glad she said ‘yes’ and we are excited for prom.”

Many girls are excited for prom and have started looking for dresses, shoes, and ways to get their hair, makeup, and nails done.

“This year I’m going on a party bus with a group of friends to San Francisco for dinner,” senior Minyon Spencer said. “After that we are going to the dance.”
