Kevin Costner has made many iconic sports movies. He’s been a star player in two baseball movies – “Bull Durham” and “For the Love the Game”. He was also a baseball fan who builds a baseball field in the middle of his farm in “Field of Dreams”. He was an aging rebel golfer in “Tin Cup” and a young cyclist in “American Flyers”.

Now he’s added the world of football in “Draft Day”, where he plays the general manager of the Cleveland Browns.

As the 2014 draft approaches, Sonny Weaver, (Costner), has the opportunity to save Cleveland football when he trades for the number one pick of the draft for Cleveland’s first round picks for the next three years. This is a huge risk for Cleveland that could possibly hurt the franchise in the future.

With Cleveland’s big shock of having the first round pick, Sonny is on the clock to find out about the quarterback, Bo Callahan, is the number one prospect to see if he is Cleveland football material. Sonny has to think about other things. He already has a quarterback who got stronger and faster over the fall, and feels he can lead the team.

With the first pick, Sonny has some other choices he could make. He could choose a running back or he could pick the linebacker to also help Cleveland. With the clock ticking, the head coach pestering him, what is Sonny Weaver going to do?

As the pressure gets to him, with everybody on his back, he turns to someone he can ask truthfully. Ali Parker (Garner), who is the capologist for the Browns and Costner’s somewhat of a girlfriend. They talk and she tells him to go with his gut feeling, not to worry, make your team, and be great.

Then the NFL draft begins and Browns are on the clock. Who does Sonny Weaver choose for the first round pick of the 2014 NFL draft?

As a Kevin Costner fan, I thought he played a really good general manager. Costner has played on over five sports films including “Draft Day,” but I didn’t think this movie was the best he has made. My favorite sports movie with Costner was “For the Love of the Game”. He played an awesome role in that movie.

I was disappointed because the commercials that hyped up the movie said that is the best movie Costner has done and it wasn’t. The movie was predictable, too. You knew what was going to happen in the first 30 minutes of the film. The movie was not complicated, even if you are not a sports fan.

I did not believe in the Costner and Gardener relationship. They just did not have chemistry and thought they could find someone more his age.

One thing I really thought was cool was NFL let the movie use the actual location in New York City and the announcers, who actually broadcast on the NFL Network. I thought that was amazing because the NFL let them use everything to make it look real. I thought that was the best part of the movie.
