Tracy High’s back-to-school rally was a spirited start to the school year. Preformed during sixth period, the rally included games, spirit checks and performances by the schools’ dance and cheer teams.
The rally begins with all of the preparation and planning. Student Activities Director Alayna Carter explained how a rally is planned. “The rally planning really starts in the summer, during leadership training. We pick a theme, which was ‘superheroes’, Carter said. “Once the theme was decided, we order supplies to create the decorations for the rally. After that, we choose all the games and activities that will create the rally.”
Carter explained how the time schedule is created to make sure every activity is short enough and long enough to fill the time slot of the rally. After the script is done, all the decorations are made to make the atmosphere spirited.
The rally is mainly used as a tool to pump the students up and bring everyone to the first football game of the year. The rally had an even bigger purpose, to reveal the new Brutus. Senior Myles Spencer was the new Brutus in the rally.
“I’m really pumped to be chosen for this,” Spencer said. “I think it will bring a lot of spirit out to the football game.”
Carter is also enthusiastic about the school receiving the new Brutus.
The superhero rally began with the first spirit check of the year, when each grade screamed and made lots of noise to show their school spirit. Hosts Abhijot Mann and Morgan Lazar, dressed as Superman and Wonder Woman, set up the games and had students from each grade play against each other. The games included a ring toss, singing, silly string target game, relay race, and a tug-of-war. There were also spirit checks throughout the rally. The dance team and cheer team also performed .
“The cheer teams routine was amazing,” junior Destiny Jensen said. “The song was really cool with the way it was personalized to THS.”
“I really loved the dance team’s routine,” senior Cynthia Bueno said, “It was definitely one of the highlights.”
Alena Pulkownik, sophomore, thought the rally was fantastic.
“All of the students had an amazing time at the rally. The new Brutus really was a surprise.”
