Krampus hits home for the Holidays
December 17, 2015
Krampus. A known name in German Folklore. This creature is very similar to Saint Nicholas as he appears near Christmas and knows who has been “naughty or nice”. The only difference? He punishes those who have been “bad” with suffering and death.
This movie plays off of German folklore in a majestic yet realistic way. This is provided by the realistic setting and impeccable acting choices. The setting is a snowy and storm-filled winter after a young boy has his beliefs on Santa crushed. Portrayed by Emjay Anthony, Max brings the legend of Krampus into his family’s life once again after deciding that “Santa” can no longer help them.
In this thrilling yet tear jerking film, his family attempts to save themselves from the evil spirits that begin taking them one after another. I believe that the plotline is very interesting and definitely portrays the strengths of the actors.
While it was meant to be more of a horror movie, I would say it brought more tears to my eyes than startled shrieks of terror. I will admit that I started to tear up at several major plot twists, but especially the ending as Krampus punishes them with eternal suffering.
Overall, this movie is a must see holiday film and is definitely worth the watch. It will make you appreciate your family and bring you closer together.
