Revenge, hate, disgust, and loathing are a few of the many emotions displayed throughout the film “The Revenant”.
“The Revenant” combines terror and suspense in this adrenaline pumping thriller. In the year 1823, exploring in the wilderness, while hunting for food after being attacked by Native Americans (Arikarra), survivalist Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio), is badly injured after being attacked by a bear while on his hunt for food. When his team leaves him to die, he uses his years of training to survive in the wild, and to make it back home to his family.
Enraged by the betrayal of his close friends, and the murder of his son Hawk. Glass is driven by the will to live while journeying through the rough winter terrain of South Dakota, to track down John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy), who was the ring leader, in his abandonment.
Glass planned to enact his revenge 38 days later, after finding camp. But the group that abandoned him had already left the camp before he arrived. He joined another group of four men to go to Fort Atkinson in pursuit of the men who betrayed him. He later was attacked by the same Arikarra tribe, that attacked him before.
The ending leads to somewhat of a counter climax because Glass comes face to face with Fitzgerald, but all the time of searching wore out his desire for revenge. The ending is a bit puzzling because it leaves the audience in discomfort because of the buildup.
Leonardo DiCaprio’s acting in the film was remarkable with the way he was able to dive into the role of a survivalist and make you feel the horror of how it would be to be trapped in the wilderness.
The directing of the film was also very impressive. The camera angles and background made you have somewhat of a gasping moment because of the scenery.
