My life, so far: Marcus Guillen

Marcus Guillen, Staff Reporter

What I hope to accomplish in the future is to attend San Jose State University after spending two years at Las Positas College in Livermore. My goal is to major in mass communications and minor in journalism.

That has been my goal ever since I was little. I also plan on getting my driver’s license once I turn 18 years old in July. The reason I would want to transfer to San Jose State is because their program for communications and journalism is very impressive and it’s close to Tracy. I also have family in San Jose, and I might live with them. In the process, I want to get a job somewhere, so I can save up for college and get a house in the future. I would like to go to San Jose State for two years, but if I have to stay longer, I will, so I can pursue my career as a sports broadcaster. My dream job after I graduate college is to eventually try to work at ESPN and be on television doing the thing I love. Another place I would love to pursue my career is at Comcast SportsNet Bay Area in San Francisco.

In summer of 2015, I was able to tour Comcast SportsNet Bay Area to see behind scenes of what people do that may not get on television, but have roles that are important to make each live broadcast right. I was also able to meet people who are now top sportscasters and look at the two studios. When I was there, I was able to be in the studio during an actual live broadcast, which was really cool to me. The person who showed me around was “Warriors Insider” Monte Poole who is friends with my step-dad. I’m hopeful to live this career by being a broadcaster somewhere like my dream is at ESPN, Comcast SportsNet, or Fox.

I also hope to have a big house in my future and two or three kids. I want to live in the Bay Area, but if my career takes me in a different path, I’m willing to do that because that’s what I love to do. As of right now, to help with my broadcasting, I’m the announcer for a youth football organization.

In the future years, I look to accomplish getting my career going, good house, nice car, and keep on getting better at things. My plan also is to become one of the best sports broadcasters in the next decade or two be very well known around the world. I plan on working in this career until I can’t physically do it anymore and have to worry about my health. I also plan to accomplish being able to be at every big sport events such as the World Series, NBA Finals, and Super Bowl either broadcasting at the event or the pre or post game show.
