Gonzalez acts as stong role model for cross country team
September 30, 2013
Senior Alfonzo Gonzalez is back at it again. During his last cross country meet at Oak Grove he ran a 17:39 three mile and he continues to strive to get better each meet.
“Being a captain, I knew that I would have to perform at a much higher level to help inspire my teammates, Gonzalez said. As a captain, I motivate, congratulate, and support my teammates to bring the best out of them while also making it fun.”
While some people focus on winning, Gonzalez focuses more on the enjoyment factor. He likes to make sure his team does well, but at the same time he wants to make sure that they are having fun and enjoying the sport.
“I train by running around town and also doing jiu jitsu helps out a lot. During meets I focus on my performance and help teammates if they are around me.”
Gonzalez is a huge motivation for this team and always wants them to do their best.
“Some people’s main focus is on state, but I try not to focus on that too much. I feel like if I make it to state then that’s great and I’ll give it 110 percent, but if I don’t make it then that’s alright too”, Gonzalez said. “I know that I’m giving it my all this season and that’s the best I can do.”
Gonzalez has a great attitude towards this sport and because of that, many of his teammates respect him.
“I think Alfonso does a great job motivating the team. He always encourages us to do better improve,” junior Blake Lazar said.
“I think Alfonzo is a great leader, he always motivates me to do better,” senior Ellie Fisher said.
At Oak Grove against Bear Creek the varsity girls’ won and the varsity boys’ lost by two points. The varsity boys had their best performances during this meet even though they lost by two seconds.
