A variety of new clubs have debuted at Tracy High School. There are several clubs that were in hiatus for a year or two, and have returned. There are 42 clubs that students can join.

One of the new clubs is the Health club. The purpose of this club is to inform students about the importance of health and some of the things that can be done to keep your body and brain in good condition. This club gives students the opportunity to do community service, influences them to do more physical activities, and consume healthier foods. The adviser is Rachel Hermann, the presidents are Fatima Mohammadi and Shively Rivera, and the vice president is Henrieta Igwe.

Quidditch club is also a new addition. Quidditch is a competitive sport from the Harry Potter movies involving riding broomsticks and four balls.

“The club is mostly about Quidditch, but also about keeping teenagers active in a fun and judgmental-free environment,” co-president Emily Simons said.

This club will allow students to bond with each other and enjoy themselves at the same time. Students will be divided into four “houses” or groups, and will be competing in games. They will also be watching the series of Harry Potter movies and will be given house quizzes. Nick Howell is the adviser of Quidditch club and the co-presidents are Isabella Arrieta and Simons.

Literature club is one of the more academic clubs. The purpose of this club is to learn about the different components of literature and the way it relates to the culture. This club will give students a chance to promote their own ideas and to get a basic understanding of all aspects of literature.

“Our purpose is to discuss philosophical literature and gain a better understanding of the books we love,” President Bella Lord said.

Students will be reading books outside of the meetings, and at the meetings they will have circle discussions and poem readings. The adviser is Brian Musich, and the presidents are Lord and Pallavi Adapa.

Model United Nations club (Model UN) is one that has been brought back this year. The last time this club was at Tracy High School was five years ago. Model UN is about learning about how the United Nations and global politics work.

“At actual conferences, students will be representing countries and competing with other high school students to see if their negotiation skills can be used to draft actual resolutions,” President Mumen Abbas said.

Students will learn how countries work together for certain resources and how the world works in general. At meetings, they will have practice simulations of actual conferences that they will attend. This will teach students good public speaking skills and leadership skills. Howell is the adviser.

The clubs that are new or return include: Badminton club, Farmers’ Market club, Health club, Magic the Gathering club (MTG), Quidditch club, Special Ed club, Sports Analytics club, and Star Wars: The Old Republic club.

There are announcements on when and where the club meetings will be only on the day of the meeting. Students also receive messages about when and where meetings are through Remind 101 and some clubs simply use group texts to communicate.
