Tracy High School held an AVID pancake breakfast fundraiser on Sunday, April 21. The event was held at Apple Bee’s from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. with tickets only available in advance.
When buying a $10 ticket for breakfast it included eggs, bacon and pancakes.
This fundraiser is set up to fund an AVID scholarship. The only requirements are to be a senior enrolled in the AVID program for three years including their senior year.
This was the first annual AVID fundraiser and the scholarship will go to a senior in AVID during the 2024-2025 schoolyear.
After selling many tickets, the AVID class raised $281.
“It was a good turnout for our first AVID fundraiser, even if we didn’t raise enough money to meet our goal, it’s still good to spread awareness and to build the AVID community,” Collette Crowley, AVID teacher, said. “If we have another fundraiser it will be up to AVID Club next year.”
“We earned $153 in tips which we split between the volunteers,” Sanam Nadeem, a senior and volunteer, shared. “My favorite part of it was just being able to see the AVID family come together and have a good time. I think fundraisers are important for AVID because it can bring the students and families together to help raise more money for the scholarships,” Nadeem continued.
When asked about the benefits of this fundraiser, Ashley Silvia, a senior and a volunteer shared, “It allows us to give more opportunities to future AVID students, it also sets an example for them to want to be a part of something bigger than themselves,” She then continued sharing her experience with this event, “My favorite part was participating with my friends and running an entire restaurant fundraiser by ourselves it was fun as well as insightful.”
Fundraisers like this really help our students at Tracy High School and teach valuable skills such as teamwork, leadership, organization and can also help the AVID students with their community service logs and teach them to do something selfless.
