Homecoming’s night rally came to an exciting end when Ruth Alvarez and Beau Mantor were crowned as homecoming queen and king.

Mantor and Alvarez were excited, shocked, and honored by their win.

“Winning felt unbelievable,” Alvarez said. “I couldn’t believe it. I was so shocked.”

Mantor shared his feelings and expressed his shock at winning.

“Winning was amazing,” Mantor said. “I was really shocked and did not see that coming.”

Alvarez talked about the stress of preparing for the night rally due to not having class with all the other candidates.

“It was really stressful,” Alvarez said. “I didn’t have class with everybody else so I always felt like I was behind.”

However, she admits that it was all worth it because winning was one of the most exciting things she’s experienced.

Mantor expressed that he was happy that Alvarez was crowned as queen because they have been friends for a long time.

“I think it’s great that Ruth won,” Mantor said. “We have been friends since freshman year and it’s really exciting to win with a friend.”

Homecoming sweepstakes, a competition between all four classes, was won by the senior class. Seniors won the skit. Juniors won the float and section decorations. Sophomores won the backdrop, and freshmen won the dress up days. The seniors were the overall winners when the scores were tallied. Many seniors were happy about the win, but were also not surprised by it.

“It was obvious that we were going to win,” senior Lety Falcao said. “No doubt about it, the seniors always win.”

Senior class president Victoria Gracie was also proud of the senior class’s victory.

“Winning homecoming is definitely one of the best feelings,” Gracie said. “It shows that hard work pays off.”

Seniors also felt sentimental and saddened that this would be their last homecoming in high school, making the event even more meaningful.
“Homecoming for me was very exciting and sad at the same time because this was my last one,” Falcao said.

This year’s homecoming theme was a movie genre theme. Each class was assigned a different genre to represent. The freshmen were comedy, sophomores were horror, juniors were musicals, and seniors were action.

Homecoming also included dress- up days. Monday was comedy and action themed, Tuesday was horror and musical themed, Wednesday was class colors, Thursday was jersey day, and Friday was extreme green and gold.

The homecoming night rally also included performances from many clubs. The clubs practiced for weeks on their performances and many people were nervous and scared to perform.

“This is my seventh time performing in front of an audience,” ROA president Purnima Mahabali said. “It’s still nerve wracking. It’s also fun.”

Many of these clubs included seniors who were sentimental about their final performance at the night rally.

“I’m very sentimental because this was my last year performing,” Mahabali said. “My club is like my family.”

Homecoming included a powder puff game where the seniors beat the juniors, 12-0. Seniors were proud and excited over their win.

“It was awesome,” Falcao said. “I actually got a chance to play this year, and I felt powerful.”

Seniors enjoyed working together and coming up with a game plan to win the game against the juniors.

“Powder puff was a lot of fun,” Regine Anne Manuel said. “It was nice to work together and come up with a strategy to win the game.”

The homecoming parade was also well received by students who enjoyed seeing the floats and people.

“It was my first year watching the parade,” junior Alessandra Rodriguez said. “I was cheering for everyone and had a lot of fun.”

Homecoming week concluded with a Friday night football game where Tracy High defeated Lodi High winning the game 42-6.

Overall, many teachers and students enjoyed homecoming and thought of it as a success.

“I’m proud with the results of homecoming,” Student Activity Director Alayna Carter said. “I thought it went flawlessly.”
