Tracy High varsity basketball held tryouts last week, with the first game on Dec. 2, as Tracy hosts West High in the Foundation game.

Varsity coach Junior Cueva has high expectations for the team.

“Our expectations for this year are to win at least 15 games and make the playoffs,” Cueva said. “We, as a coaching staff, expect our players to develop daily in our practices and compete at a high level.”

Cueva has the varsity team practicing six days a week to ensure that they will be ready for the upcoming season.

“I think that if our players compete and develop like I expect them to, we should have a winning season,” Cueva said. “We also hope to see development in some of our younger players.”

The varsity team will have many returning players including: Josh Brakkee, Jeff Takahashi, Cole Link, David Hinson, Druce Asah, and Devin Foster. This does not include football players who have yet to try out due to the football season still going on.

The varsity team captains for will be Jeff Takahashi and Josh Brakkee.

“I’m looking forward to getting better every day and getting closer to our goal of reaching playoffs,” Takahashi said. “The biggest game will probably be our cross-town rival game vs. West High at home. We usually get a packed house for that game.”

“As a team, our goal is to make playoffs. We have worked really hard this off season and feel that we are good enough to beat or at least compete with any team that we play,” Brakkee said. “My individual goals this year would be to work on my ball handling; I have a consistent jump shot, and I also try to be the go to guy in tough situations.”

Both Takahashi and Brakkee have high hopes for their team and wish to lead the team to playoffs.

“I look forward to everyone playing together as a whole this season,” Brakkee said.
