Jorja Rule has only been teaching at Tracy High for two years and loves Tracy High. She loves interacting with her students and loves to kid around with them. She loves watching the “light bulb” appear with her students. She sees it as her students are eager to come into the classroom and actually want to be there. She eventually would like to spend the rest of her teaching career at Tracy High.

What drives or motivates you? “Having relationships. Before I was teacher, I used to manage a fast food restaurant, and I had one those days where everything just seemed negative. I hated my job, and I wasn’t able to achieve the things I wanted to achieve. The thing I loved about my job though was developing young people, which made me think I was in the wrong profession. So, the next day, I started on working on getting my teaching credential.”

What was your first car? “My first car was a 1965 Mini Cooper. It was white and had blue and red stripes.”

What’s your idea of a perfect day? “A perfect day is when I don’t have anything to do that day. I don’t have to deal with grading, schoolwork, or even housework. It be a great day to take my dogs out to the park and then coming home to play Xbox.”

What is your favorite sport? “I normally don’t like watching any sports, but the only one I do enjoy is watching basketball. I don’t have a favorite team, but I do like to watch Cal women’s basketball. I also watch football when Cal and Stanford are playing. That’s the only time I watch for sports.”

What’s your favorite sport to play? “My favorite sport to play is softball and ultimate frisbee. I really enjoyed playing softball.”

Did you always know what you wanted to do? “No I didn’t. I swore to myself that I would not become my mother, because she was a school teacher, but like I said, one day I realized I was in the wrong profession.”

Do you have any hobbies? “I like to read. I also write poetry, and I am actually writing a novel and I am only in chapter nine. I also have a lot of pets. I have six dogs, four cats, 18 koi fish, three ducks, two salt water fish tanks, and two ferrets.”

Who is your favorite super hero? “I don’t really have a favorite, but if I had to choose I would say I like the X Men.

What’s the difficult part about your job? “It’s a hard thing to balance between getting kids involved, engaged, and on task.”

How long have you been teaching? “I’ve been teaching for 10 years. I started my first year with Manteca Unified, spent four years at Lincoln Unified, spent three years at Heald College, and now have been teaching at Tracy High for two years.”
