Physical Education (PE) teacher, Amanda Bowman wanted to be a PE teacher since she was in the seventh grade. She teaches freshman Core 9 and Aerobics.

Where did you go to school? “I went to Kinsley High School in Monterey county and graduated in 1991, I then went to California State University Stanislaus.”

What made you want to be a PE teacher? “I wanted to be a PE teacher since 7th grade, I loved my PE teacher, she was so nice and I thought it was the coolest job ever.”

What did your students learn this year? “We did a lot of individual and dual sports this year according to the curriculum, but, I hope that the students learned that physical education can be fun.”

What is the most difficult part about being a PE teacher? “The hardest thing is probably just memorizing everyone’s names in the beginning of the year, 45 students per class. Another thing that’s difficult would probably be, trying to get everyone motivated for class.”

What is the best part about being a PE teacher? “The best part is that PE teachers aren’t crammed into one room all day, we get to be outside and be active.”

What are some of your hobbies? “Currently, it is all about my kids, whatever they need to do, sports, every weekend is either spent in a gym or a field. I have two kids, one is a freshman and the other is a 6th grader.”

How has being around sports changed you? “I believe that being involved in sports or a team, whether in sports or outside of sports, it develops you, gives life-long determination and skills.”

What is your idea of a perfect day? “It would be a nice warm summer day next to a pool or a lake, spent relaxing.”

Do you like to travel? “I love to travel, learning about new cultures and people; I have been to Mexico, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, and Acapulco.”

Did someone ever inspire you? “My 7th grade teacher inspired me to become a PE teacher, my English teacher in high school was very nice as well.”

What drives you or motivates you? “I just have a determination to get it done, my main focus would be on that and I would work on it until it’s done.”
