As a new year of high school starts, a new season of girls’ tennis starts as well. The 2015 Tracy High School’s girls’ tennis team is a force to be reckoned with. A few of Tracy’s strong players have returned, as well as gaining a handful of young and talented freshman players.

“We’ll win as many games as we can and do our best in each one,” Girls’ Tennis Coach Paul Demsher said. “One of our goals every year is to improve as the season progresses and that we’re as competitive as we can be in all of our matches. I think we have very strong singles players this year, our doubles are inexperienced and are going to need some time on the courts to get better. Our 1,2,3, and 4 players are all returners and then we have a freshman newcomer who is a very good player, two freshman newcomers who are very good. All of our singles players are very solid and two of them are freshmen newcomers.”

Sarah Kellogg, senior, is one of the top returners, playing all four years in high school. “It’s nice because we have a lot of people and most of them seemed to have played before. It should be good,” Kellogg said. “I’ve improved a lot because I did a lot of summer training. I was on a summer league team,” Kellogg said.

“I think we’ll do really well. A lot of the players who are in the top 12 are getting a lot better in the past three weeks.

I think some teams will be challenging for us, but I think we can pull through

,” senior Marissa Anderson said. “I think I am in a good spot. I’ll do pretty well. I think I have a lot of challenges with the other teams, but I think I can probably do it. I just need to work on my skills and focus more. I think being on the tennis team, we have a really good family because we all bond really well. It’s a lot of fun to have after school because it’s a great stress reliever,” Anderson said.

Isabella Ellis, a freshman, is one of the talented newcomers. Ellis said that before she came to Tracy High School, she played tennis on and off for six years. “Everybody is welcoming and nice. It just pushes me to get better and better and improve more. Some schools may be challenging, but I just need to focus and do my best and try to improve throughout the season.”
