Each day at Tracy High, hundreds of adolescents pile into the cafeteria to consume their lunch. The cafeteria provides a variety of food for the students at to ensure that they get the required nutrients. The cost of a lunch has increased by $.25, since the entrees are being made with better ingredients.

Last year lunch was $2.75, but now the price increased to $3. There has not been any complaint about the price increase.

“The reason for the price increase of lunch is because we are mandated by the government, what to serve each menu cycle,” Kitchen Supervisor Kerry Jones said. “The director reviews the five menu cycles that we have, to check for how much fat, cholesterol, protein that is in each menu. Since there are better ingredients used to make the meals, they cost extra.”

Some students that already have trouble affording lunch, the price increase will pose a little bit more difficulty for them to get lunch.

“Lunch is still affordable for me, but that extra quarter adds up because my mom provides my lunch money. That makes it more difficult for her since we don’t have a lot of money,” senior Iveron Magby said.
