Clubs aim to assist less fortunate

Many clubs at Tracy High organize ways to help those in need, and it is important for Tracy High students to get involved. With the holidays approaching, many clubs are aiming to help those less fortunate; and there are several ways to get involved.

Fashion Club is holding a clothing drive in hopes of donating clothes to homeless people in the community. Fashion Club President Bella Lord played a large role in putting together the clothing drive.

Students can bring any lightly used clothes to room A111 to donate them to the clothing drive.

“Anything can be donated to the drive, but we prefer socks and shoes because that’s what homeless people need really badly,” Lord said.

The donated clothes will be taken to both the Salvation Army and some nearby homeless shelters

The drive opened just before Thanksgiving break started and ends Friday, Dec. 18, so it’s not too late to donate. Everyone who donates gets their name put into a raffle, from which a winner will be chosen to receive a mystery prize.

Fashion Club has many plans for the rest of the year as well.

“We’ll be making crafts like tie-dye shirts and flower crowns,” Lord said. “We also hope to put on a fundraising fashion show near the end of the year.”

Another opportunity for students to help the less fortunate is to participate in Health Club’s food drive.

Health Club Vice-President Henrieta Igwe, a senior, shared the details of the food drive.

“We’re asking for any non-perishable food items to donate to needy families for the upcoming holiday season,” Igwe said.

Examples of non –perishable food items are applesauce, granola bars, and pudding.

Food can be donated in several English classes: Sarah Rockey in room A201, Carol Garske in room A204, Regina Johosky in room A205, Brian Musich in room A207, and Bond Cashmere in room A221. The drive ends on Dec. 11.
